First Baptist Church Ministry
Adult Ministry
Ministry for and with adults takes many forms at Hornell First Baptist Church. Three Bible Discovery Time (BDT -- our Sunday School) classes are offered for adults each Sunday morning at 11:15 a.m. during the school year. In addition, a number of mid-week Bible studies are available. Contact the church for information.
Children's Ministry
Children's Ministry is conducted in a variety of ways at Hornell First Baptist Church. Each week there is a Children's Message during the morning service, generally 3 to 5 minutes in length, given by various church volunteers to involve the children in the service. Children are then dismissed for Children's Church or the nursery. Children are taught important Bible truths by a dedicated staff of volunteer teachers and assistants at weekly Bible Discovery Time (BDT) classes on Sundays, following Sunday morning worship service. In addition, pre-school age children experience Christian love and acceptance through the ministry of Jacks and Jills Nursery School. The Children's Ministry department also conducts various outreach programs throughout the year, providing wholesome activities and solid Bible teaching that can serve as a foundation for growing lives. The church also sponsors Cub Scout Pack 7 and Boy Scout Troop 37.
Jacks & Jills Nursery School
Jacks & Jills Nursery School is a non-profit Christian organization sponsored by the First Baptist Church of Hornell. The primary purpose of Jacks & Jills Nursery School is to provide an opportunity for pre-school age children to experience Christian love and acceptance, whereby each child can grow to his / her full potential mentally, physically and emotionally. This is accomplished through play-learning activities such as painting, blocks, dress-up, puppets, songs, stories, field trips, computers, and perceptual activities aimed at reaching the individual child's educational and social abilities. Classes for 3 and 4 year-old children are held in the nursery school rooms at First Baptist Church Monday through Friday during the school year. For information about how to register, please contact the Church Office at 607 324-5092, or by email: hornellfirstbaptistchurch@verizon.net
Stephen Ministry
"...and they chose...Stephen (a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit)...Stephen, a man full of God's grace and power, performed amazing miracles and signs among the people...None of them was able to stand against the wisdom and Spirit by which Stephen spoke...everyone in the council stared at Stephen because his face became as bright as an angel's." Acts 6:5,8,10,15
Stephen Ministry is a Christ-centered program which matches care givers (Stephen Ministers) with those in need of care. Eleven Stephen Ministers are currently available to offer help and hope to individuals who are experiencing such life crises as hospitalization, retirement, financial setback, the loss of a loved one, or any of a number of other difficulties people face in daily living. For further information about Stephen Ministry, please contact the church office at hornellfirstbaptistchurch@verizon.net.
Youth Ministry
Youth in grades 7-12 are invited to participate in Hornell First Baptist's Youth Ministry program. Youth Fellowship meets at the church throughout the school year. Check with the church office (607 324-5092, M-F, 8:30 to noon) to verify the calendar for Youth Fellowship. Each year, members of the group attend a Word of Life SuperBowl event, travel to Christian artists' concerts, and participate in an overnight "lock-in" at the church, along with other faith-learning activities. In addition, the Youth are involved in various outreach projects. The goal of Youth Fellowship is to worship and learn more about Christ while also having a good time!
